That all changed in 2012 when Brandt took control of the company. ![]() “She was very happy with what we were doing and very happy with the amount of money we were bringing in. Seuss character herself, such a little imp,” says Susan Brandt, the 57-year-old president of Seuss Enterprises, who joined the company more than two decades ago, after penning a cover letter in rhyme. There was also the 2001 Broadway flop, Seussical, which closed after 198 performances. With limited resources, Audrey and her small team focused on more books, a handful of licensed products and later a few one-off films, all the while driving around Southern California in her 1984 Cadillac with a vanity plate that read, “Grinch.”Īudrey made a few serious efforts to fulfill her husband’s deathbed dream, spearheading projects that included Jim Carrey’s 2000 Grinch movie, which became the world’s second highest-grossing Christmas film, the 2003 Michael Myers flop The Cat in the Hat, and the 2008 hit Horton Hears a Who!. Two years after her husband’s death, the diminutive but fierce Audrey Geisel followed the doctor’s orders and founded Seuss Enterprises. ![]()
